So how does hypnosis work? First we need to know what hypnosis does. Hypnosis is a way to reprogram your subconscious mind to change patterns and behaviors you have programmed into your mind since birth. Everyone has a subconscious mind with the ability to do wonderful things for them. It is while developing in life, from childhood on, that so many negative messages can stunt its growth. From “don’t touch that, you’ll burn yourself,” “get back or you’ll fall,” “look out, don’t break that,” to “you won’t amount to much,” “you’ll never make it in that business,” “you want to be a what?” - it’s a wonder any of us ever make it to adulthood.

Your subconscious has the power and knowledge of the universe, but it has no imagination, no direction of its own. It is like a magnificent ship capable of taking you anywhere in life’s ocean. It even has its own, built-in navigator, but YOU are the MASTER. You have to plot your course, and it will follow your every command. If you continue feeding your subconscious with negative thoughts you will continue to receive what you ask for.

The universe is in perfect balance, made up of “positive” and “negative” vibrations. If you seek, or even accept, the negative vibration, that is what your subconscious projects, and what you, in turn, receive. Those who can only feel positive thoughts and project positive vibes, summon in powerful, positive strength to achieve anything they put their minds to. Through the use of hypnosis you can begin to realize your true birth right of prosperity, health and wonderful relationships.

Who do you really want to be? Where do you want to be? How wealthy do you want to be? Your subconscious mind can draw an abundance of each from your own treasure trove in the universe if you just go about it the right way. How do you get the attention of your subconscious mind and make it accomplish these things for you? How do you get hypnosis to work for you?

You can seek the aid of a hypnotherapist, but the cost becomes restrictive for many of us. You can also teach yourself hypnosis. With the right program you will really learn how hypnosis works.

So how to hypnotize a person following very simple steps? As you know, hypnosis is usually defined as a trance-like state in which a person becomes more aware and focused and is more open to suggestion. Many people get the wrong connotation of what that means, assuming they will be enticed to bark like a dog or jump out of the window whenever someone says a particular word they hear. Before you attempt to hypnotize a person on your own, you need to have some guidance through the process. What it takes is someone willing to try and just by following simple steps you can achieve the most astounding results!

The first thing you need to do when you want to learn how to hypnotize a person is explain to the person what is going to happen to them: they will feel comfortable and relaxed. You can even present it as a relaxation session. Get them to close their eyes or start with their eyes open if they are more comfortable like that. Have the same position that they have and start by breathing at the same speed they do.Then you need to be honest with your subject. Hypnotizing a person is not a game but a very serious process.

Your voice is your main tool. Use it with great care: “Good, here is what is going to happen. I’m going to explain some of the things that lead toward hypnosis and I’ll ask you to do them and then after a while we will come back to our usual state of mind. This will give you a taste of what hypnosis is like and if you like it later we’ll go deeper, ok? Wait for the answer “ok” and keep talking.

“When we do it, your breathing can slow down, your facial muscles will relax and you will become still. Can you do that?” Wait for the answer “ok” and keep talking. “Begin with your eyes open, when you feel like you want to close go ahead. You may experience a lack of desire to move because you are so comfortable. ok? Are you ready? Wait for an affirmative response. Start.

After you say “Start,” what you want to do is reproduce, in yourself, as many of the signs of hypnosis as you can -with your eyes open-. Your subject’s shoulders will begin to drop, their breathing rate will decelerate and their face will relax. As you notice these signs of relaxation, encourage and reinforce them by the use of verbal cues like “good” “excellent”, or “you are doing well”.

Learning how to hypnotize a person is a slow process. Ask them about their experience. Then mention that each time they practice this relaxation it happens more quickly and deeply. “So, what was that like for you? (Wait for response) You did very well. Learning to do this is a skill; it gets faster and deeper each time. Some people report that it takes a little bit of effort to swallow because the throat is so relaxed and that the arms can grow comfortably heavy. Ready to do it again?”

You’ll find that after 2 or 3 repetitions of this simple technique your subject will get into a good level of relaxation. Do not forget that these simple steps are just to introduce someone to the notion of hypnosis. During a real hypnosis session, you’re actually planting seeds of thought into your subconscious mind or your subject’s subconscious mind so that they’ll take root and grow from there. The more often you do it, the more comfortable you get.

Sophia Munoz is fascinated by neuropsychology and hypnosis. She explores little known methods some doctors use-to learn how to hypnotize anyone and has recently started to work on a publication on self and conversational hypnosis.

If you are continually struggling with the same issues day-after-day, week-after-week, maybe it is time for a change. If you want to progress your career, or your life, maybe a NLP training course is right for you.

What is NLP?

Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is a set of models of how communication impacts and is impacted by subjective experience. In addition to being an agent for change, NLP is also used in psychotherapy treatments for problems as diverse as phobias and schizophrenia. NLP also aims at transforming corporations, showing them how to accomplish their maximum potential and achieve great success.

Creators of NLP

Co-created by Richard Bandler and linguist John Grinder in the 1970s, the initial focus was to discover what made three psychotherapists, gestalt therapist Fritz Perls, family therapist Virginia Satir and founding president of the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis, Milton H. Erickson, more successful than their peers.

Timeline of NLP

1970: Founding and early development
1972: Research of Fritz Perls, Virginia Satir and Milton H. Erickson begins.
1975: Subsequently Structure of Magic Series published
1976-77: Patterns of the Hypnotic Techniques of Milton H. Erickson published
1979: Frogs into Princes: Neuro Linguistic Programming published
1980: Neuro-Linguistic Programming: Volume I published
1980: Bandler and Grinder go their separate ways
1981: The first of many intellectual property lawsuits begin. NLP Training courses begin to be developed by many individuals. Given the diversity of developers and trainers, there is no single definitive system of NLP.
1982-87: Grinder and Judith DeLozier collaborated to develop the New Code of NLP.
1984-87: Research reviews in experimental counselling psychology by the United States National Research Council gave NLP an overall negative assessment marking a decrease in NLP research interest
1988-89: Bandler develops Design Human Engineering™ and later Neuro-Hypnotic Repatterning™
1990s: In the UK and other countries certification of NLP courses and providers begins
1996-97: Bandler files suit against Grinder claiming trademark infringement and intellectual property ownership of NLP.
Where the co-creators are now

The end of 2000 achieved a settlement between Bandler and Grinder when they agreed, “they are the co-creators and co-founders of the technology of Neuro-linguistic Programming.” Richard Bandler is currently with The Society of Neuro-Linguistic Programming™ and John Grinder can be found at The International Trainers Academy of Neuro-Linguistic Programming.

NLP Today

NLP continues to be an open field of training with different trainers and practitioners developing their own methods and concepts. One common thread in NLP is the emphasis on teaching a variety of communication and persuasion skills, and using self-hypnosis to motivate and change oneself. With numerous NLP practitioners advertising on the Internet today, many of their standards and quality of courses may differ. When performing a search for a NLP Training course make certain to choose an organization with a good reputation.

The best way to ensure a NLP organization is reputable is to conduct research. There are many articles, forums and NLP training blogs to uncover information and reviews concerning courses and trainers.

David Leonhardt and Corey Rozon are Canadian freelance writers. If you are looking for NLP training courses, then you might want to visit Global NLP training and check out their life coach training courses around the world.

Many people are interested in hypnosis as a treatment method for various things such as weight loss, smoking cessation, etc. However, even though hypnosis and hypnotherapy have been around for a very long time, and has been approved by the American Medical Association (AMA) since 1958, most people have not been hypnotized in their lives. So the idea of being hypnotized may frighten them a little, because for the human mind, the unknown equals fear.

The best way to conquer that fear is with information. People are all different, so there is no single correct way to feel in hypnosis. Because everyone is different, whatever you experience in hypnosis is right for you. So, without further ado, here, David Letterman style, are the top ten things people say when they are hypnotized for the first time.

10. I thought I was only under for about (5 or 10) minutes! In fact, this is the most common comment I hear from clients. The reality is usually closer to 45 minutes and they are amazed. The fact is, the subconscious doesn’t sense time in the same way as the conscious mind. It also doesn’t tell past from present very well, which means that messages that were accepted into your subconscious when you were seven, are every bit as valid at 40, as far as your subconscious is concerned.

9. I felt really heavy, like I was sinking into the chair. This is a common reaction to the relaxation induced by hypnosis. However, everyone is different, and therefore …

8. I felt really light and tingly, like I could float away. Like I said, everyone’s different. Same phenomenon, different reaction.

7. (This one is after being counted out)… I feel the way I feel after a good massage.

6. Everything sounded so loud, like my hearing was on steroids. This is an effect of hypnosis, and why most hypnotherapists will tell you that sounds other than their voice are not important and will only cause you to go deeper. Hearing becomes very acute under hypnosis.

5. I got very cold. Some people react to hypnosis by feeling cold and shivering. If you haven’t been hypnotized before, ask your hypnotherapist if they have blankets handy, in case you react this way.

4. I got very hot, like I was flushed, and then that faded. Again, this is another difference between people.

3. I really could NOT open my eyes (or bend my arm, etc.) when you told me to! I won’t divulge the secret of this one, but if you are unable to open your eyes, or bend your arm, or whatever the challenge is that your hypnotherapist is giving to you, then you know you are indeed, in hypnosis. Which leads us to #2…

2. I didn’t feel like I was hypnotized. You are fully conscious during hypnosis; you hear everything. If your hypnotherapist gives you the suggestion to remember everything (which is common when working with habit control especially), then you will remember everything. Your mind may drift to other thoughts. But your subconscious is listening, and you ARE in hypnosis!

1. I don’t remember (anything, or a large portion of) what you said during the session. Hypno-amnesia is common under hypnosis. If your hypnotherapist does not suggest to your subconscious to remember everything that is said during the session, you may not. At least not at first. Chances are portions of it will come back to you over the next several hours. This is not a problem–your subconscious was listening, and it is your subconscious that will make the changes for you!

I am throwing a pencil now (ala David Letterman) even though you can’t see me!

Feminization hypnosis is a procedure of inducing qualities that are more feminine. This is helpful for the transvestite, transsexual, and transgender. People who are transvestites often lack self-confidence. They are more confounded to low self-esteem that keep them away from the society. Feminization hypnosis will allow transgenders to attain complete individual feminine characteristics.

Other women who dreams of a more feminine posture can also adopt the procedure of hypnosis feminization. We are aware of women who are thoroughly enriched in feminine qualities lack a female voice. Their rough voice has always been a curse. Through this type of hypnosis, a woman can easily attain female voice and be more confident about her womanhood. Making your dream come true is not a difficult task. It can be achieved through a systematic procedure of hypnosis within short periods. It has no side effects or no serious harms, as this hypnosis is a direct treatment with the brain. This technology not only makes you feel like a woman but a perfect woman. Here, the mind is being carefully influenced. The hypnotist enhances our mind to accept the feminine qualities through his wonder speeches. Later the woman’s body will perform according to the mind.

There has been a lot of talk about Conversational Hypnosis lately. A person unfamiliar with the intricacies of hypnosis might think that all styles of hypnosis are the same. Whilst the principles of hypnosis stand firm, here are 4 things that you may not know about Conversational Hypnosis and the way it differs from the more conventional forms of hypnosis.

Difference #1 - Open Eye Trance vs Closed Eye Trance
Unlike conventional hypnosis, Conversational Hypnosis invokes a waking trance whereby the participant has their eyes open while in trance. The hypnotist can have the participant close their eyes if they wish; it’s just that eye closure is not essential. One of the more important skills of Conversational Hypnosis is spotting the physiological signal that a waking trance exists. Conventional hypnosis requires the closure of the eyes.

Difference #2 - Quick Induction vs Slow Induction
Although it is important for the participant to feel relaxed, Conversational Hypnosis inductions are different from conventional hypnosis inductions. Conventional hypnosis inductions generally use a progressive relaxation method whereby the participant is gradually relaxed into a state of hypnosis. Whilst quicker versions of the progressive relaxation method have been developed, a progressive relaxation hypnotic induction can take up to 25 minutes. A conversational induction can take only minutes.

Difference #3 - Indirect Language vs Direct Language
Conversational Hypnosis utilizes artfully vague, yet incredibly powerful language to lead the participant into hypnosis. Whilst on the surface, the language appears very simple; it uses clever structures and indirect suggestions to induce a trance state. Conventional Hypnosis tends to use far more direct language. For example: a conversational hypnotist might say “As you breathe you may begin to notice your shoulders becoming more relaxed” whereas a conventional hypnotist would be more direct by saying “Relax your shoulders”.

Difference #4 - Overt and Covert vs Overt
Conversational Hypnosis can be used both overtly and covertly. The term overt means that the participant is aware that they are going to be hypnotized, where covert means they will not be aware of hypnotic processes. Due to the non direct nature of the language, Conversational Hypnosis can be used in other aspects of life, not just in a therapeutic sense. Conventional hypnosis tends to be overt by nature. The language is comprised of quite direct instructions that make the hypnotists intention hard to hide.

Final Thoughts:
Whilst I have a personal preference for Conversational Hypnosis, neither of the methods is the right or wrong way. Hypnosis is both fascinating and powerful skill to have. It’s been an obsession of mine for many years now!!

If you are trying to quit smoking, you know how tough it is to overcome this harmful habit. It is possible however, and half of all adult smokers will successfully quit smoking forever. Many smokers have been able to quit smoking cigarettes by replacing them with different, positive habits without having to suffer through withdrawal symptoms. By far, the most effective and easiest method to stop smoking and achieve this end is stop smoking self hypnosis.

Stop smoking hypnotherapy is one of the most regularly practiced forms of hypnosis. It is often cited as a tool to stop smoking along with strategies such as nicotine replacement therapy and other popular methods. It helps to end the smoking addiction by combating cravings to smoke, keeping you committed to quitting, and promoting stress relief and relaxation so you will not be tempted to smoke.

The smoking addiction has both physiological and psychological aspects. The physiological addiction is a physical need the body develops to nicotine. This component of the addiction is what causes the withdrawal symptoms that make it initially seem near impossible to stop smoking. However, this is a short, temporary phase in the overall process of quitting the habit, which lasts only between three days and one week. By the end of this period, your body acclimates to regular, nicotine-free functioning. Based on thirty years of experience, I believe that the physical addiction to nicotine constitutes a mere ten percent of the addiction to smoking.

By far, the most challenging part of breaking the smoking addiction is overcoming the psychological addiction, which are the mental and emotional aspects of smoking. I believe this constitutes ninety percent of the smoking addiction. When you develop a smoking habit, you unconsciously develop a desire to smoke at certain times, such as before going to bed at night. This is called a conditioned response. Stop smoking self hypnosis helps eliminate the unconscious associations that cause one to crave cigarettes, thereby eliminating the conditioned response to smoke. Hypnosis also helps you stay motivated to quit smoking by strengthening your ideas that gave you the desire to break the smoking addiction in the first place.

Smokers get stuck impulsively lighting up and smoking. This is why many people who attempt to stop smoking using nicotine gums or patches alone have such a difficult experience. They promptly overcome the physiological addiction, but they have no replacement or relief for the ritual of smoking, which has become a psychological addiction and comforting source of stress relief. Self hypnosis techniques eliminate this mental addiction and serve as stress reducers as well. As a relaxation tool, hypnosis helps effectively relieve anxiety and stress so you will lose the cravings for cigarettes.

Used in combination with some effective NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) techniques, stop smoking self hypnosis can keep you committed to breaking the habit by training the unconscious to focus on the benefits of quitting. Eliminating tobacco benefits you in numerous ways. Within days of quitting, body parts damaged by smoking begin to heal, damaged nerves re-grow, and your sense of taste and smell improves significantly. Within weeks, lung function and circulation improve. Within a year, your risk of heart disease is less than half that of a smoker. Within five to fifteen years, your risk of having a stroke is the same as a non-smoker. Your risk of death from lung cancer and a number of other cancer risks have decreased, and the risk of heart disease is the same as someone who has never smoked.

Despite the dangers of smoking and the health benefits of quitting, some smokers never overcome their addiction. For the most part, this is because they have never really made a decision to quit. Other smokers are afraid to suffer from withdrawal symptoms or live without the smoking habit. Quitting smoking does not have to be the difficult process that makes so many smokers reluctant to even attempt quitting. Hypnosis acts as a very simple, natural method of quitting.

Hypnotherapy is an effective tool for curbing cravings for cigarettes, providing powerful motivation, and promoting relaxation and stress relief to eliminate the psychological component of the smoking addiction. Stop smoking hypnosis techniques can be easily learned from specialized self-hypnosis programs that have been developed after decades of using hypnosis, Neuro-VISION video hypnotherapy, and NLP to help clients kick the cigarette addiction.

Stop smoking self-hypnosis programs make it easy to stop smoking for good because they break the smoking habit in a process that helps extinguish cravings and any desire to smoke. Whatever your motivation is for breaking the habit, hypnotherapy makes it easier to focus your mind on these reasons, which makes you feel a great urge to quit. Stop smoking hypnotherapy programs eliminate the compulsion to smoke. Even though quitting smoking can be a painful and unsuccessful experience for some, those who utilize self hypnosis programs have a much greater rate of success because it makes the process much easier. It is the most effective method for smoke cessation.

Alan B. Densky, CH pioneered the use of video stop smoking aids and received a U.S. Patent on the process. He offers a number of ways to stop smoking if you are ready to stop smoking now.
